On Mr. Tan Lye Hoe
Tan
Lye
Hoe
is
an
abstractionist
who
has
produced
much
stronger
work
recently.
His
‘Moonglow
IV’
resembles
abstract
landscape
that
relies
largely
on
simple
brush
strokes
and
basic
organic
forms.
An
intimate
art
of
human
behaviour
and
emotion,
Tan’s
work
is
filled
with
gesture
and
colour
and exudes much energy.

On Mr. Tan Lye Hoe
Of
the
Abstractionists,
Tan
Lye
Hoe’s
Abstraction
is
a
fine
composition
demonstrating
a
lively
inter-play
of
lines,
textures,
forms
and
movements
derived
from
the
rock
formation
and
water
passages.
To
Lye
Hoe,
seeking
out
the
essence
of
form
and
flows
in
nature
is
the
essential
factor
in
creating a visual image.
Teng Choke Dee
The Star, April 1985

INSIGHT ON THE MAN AND HIS ART
- DATO’TANG HONG YIN - By Dato’ himself.
I
guess
the
most
challenging
aspect
of
painting
is
the
idea.
How
do
I
create
an
image
that
no
one
has
seen
before?
How
do
I
paint
something
that
I
myself
have
not
seen
before?
How
do
I
create
an
image
that
says
different
things
to
different
people?
Thay
is
what
I
try to achieve in my paintings.
The
other
thing
try
to
achieve
is
for
my
paintings
to
set
off
the
imagination
of
the
viewer.
To
intrigue,
puzzle,
perhaps
fascinate
the
viewer
and
let
his
imagination
transport
him
to
different
worlds
is
what
I
set
out
to
do.
I
let
the
viewer
derives
meaning
from
his
interpretation
of
what
he
sees.
Ambiguity
is
a
desirable
element
in
my work.
People
look
at
my
work
and
ask
me
what
it
means.
My
paintings
are
neither
descriptive
nor
narrative
and
meaning
is
the
furthest
thing
from
my
mind
when
I
paint.
I
let
the
viewer
derive
meaning
from his interperetation of what he sees.

Liang, I went in for a quick look.
Well designed pages; the categories were comprehensive.
The historical coverage was well-documented.
The
response
in
the
individual
artist
and
works,
was
sensitive
and
efficient.
Like the cover of the Catalogue.
The
feature
on
art
classes
and
activities
is
an
excellent
one.
Actively utilised, the society will be highly dynamic.
Congratulations
for
your
excellent
contribution
and
to
all
the
guys
behind
the
scene
actively
keeping
the
Society
going
over
so
many
many years, Kudos
